Chronic wounds affect 2.5% of the US population, 43% due to infection. These patients have typically undergone weeks or months of antibiotic therapy without relief.
Antibiotics are given orally, IV or IM (into muscle). The antibiotic spreads throughout the body and levels at the infection site, are often too low to combat the infection.
Antibiotics may also cause toxic side effects in other areas of the body.
When bacteria infect an area, they secrete an extracellular matrix. Bacteria attach to the matrix creating a community or biofilm that has increased resistance to antibiotics and the immune system.
Intractable soft tissue infections are healed with a
30 minute treatment.
High levels of antibiotics are achieved at the site of infection.
Biofilm is ruptured and bacteria destroyed.
